This Train the Painter (TTP) Protective Coating Training course is the foundation for all other TTP courses and painter training programs. It must be completed in order to undertake any further programs. It covers all the essential knowledge required prior to stepping onsite.
Our spray painting course is the perfect follow-on from the Protective Coating Applicator course. It takes the fundamental key skills you have learnt and builds on them with further development in painting training courses, furthering your knowledge and increasing your employability in this expanding industry.
This TTP training in abrasive blast cleaning allows students to further specialise your skillset. The Train the Painter course provides you with both the theoretical knowledge, as well as providing you practical experience to become qualified to work using multiple blast media.
Industrial painter training was developed due to demands by many industries to have formal accredited training for applicators of coatings in the United Kingdom.
Train the Painter scheme is mandated by The Highways Agency in NHSS19A and Network Rail for all applicators and is also a requirement for many other major structure owners such as Oil Companies, Wind Farm Operators, Construction Contractors and other asset owners.
Our paint training courses focus on Health & Safety, Access, Paint Types, Paint Training, Surface Preparation, Coating Application along with understanding the Quality Assurance & Quality Control process. Additional Specialist Modules in Paint Spraying and Abrasive Blast Cleaning are also available, as additional modules once the mandatory TTP Coating applicator training is completed as part of the train the painter program.
The scheme stakeholders include: Highways Agency, Network Rail, British Coatings Federation, British Constructional Steelwork Association, Consulting Engineers, Local Authorities and Structural Engineering Specifiers. Train the Painter is mandated for Highways Works through the National Highways Sector Scheme (NHSS) 19A and is also a statutory requirement for all Network Rail contracts. The Environment Agency require industrial painter qualified operatives for many of their paint projects. Other major organisations are expected to adopt the scheme in the near future also, with the latest addition being EDF for Hinckley Point.
There are many benefits to the train the painter training programme, we have listed a few of the key ones below, however this is a non-exhaustive list;
Industrial Painting courses with TTP are made up of three modules, the first which must be completed prior to attempting any further module is the Protective Coatings Applicator module.
After successfully completing this course delegates can then go on to complete the Abrasive Blast Cleaning and Spray Painting courses.
Candidates undergoing training for certification as an Industrial Coating Applicator (Bronze) are not required to have any previous experience of industrial coatings application however they will be required to be mentored by a qualified painting operative in the workplace for a specified period of time after successful completion of paint training. This also applies to delegates with less than 1600 hours of industrial coatings experience.
During this qualification period the trainee will carry a "Orange Coating Applicator Trainee" wallet card to signify their status as a trainee industrial painter.
A log of weekly activity will be kept and signed by the applicator and supervisor during this period. The trainees supervisor must be designated by the painting company to paint supervisor experience. Once the log book has been completed this is sent direct to the coating assessor on the log book app.
Once the Industrial Coating Applicator is signed off, a replacement full Train the Painter Bronze, Silver or Gold card can be issued.
